Thurston Regional Planning Council (TRPC) is an intergovernmental board made up of local government jurisdictions within Thurston County. TRPC was established in 1967 under RCW 36.70.060 which authorized creation of regional planning councils in Washington State.
Thurston Regional Planning Council's mission is to Provide Visionary Leadership on Regional Plans, Policies and Issues.
The primary functions of TRPC are to:
- Develop regional plans and policies for transportation, growth management, environmental quality, and other topics determined by the Council;
- Provide data and analysis to support local and regional decision making;
- Build community consensus on regional issues through information and citizen involvement;
- Build intergovernmental consensus on regional plans, policies and issues, and advocate local implementation;
- Provide planning and technical services on a contractual basis.
Each member jurisdiction funds the Council's operations based on a per capita formula. The Council is governed by representatives from the member jurisdictions. They determine the budget and work program annually for Council projects and operations.
As a separate function, Thurston Regional Planning Council also provides various contract services to local jurisdictions including planning, data analysis, mapping, as well as board and commission staff support.
