Thurston County has had the distinction of being the county with the highest per capita rate of bicycle commuting of the nine most populated counties in Washington State.
Between 1990 and 2000, bicycle commuting grew by 107% in Olympia.
Biking is a great way to get exercise while you commute and save money. |

Bicycle Commuter Contest
Since 1988, the Bicycle Commuter Contest has encouraged individuals to bike to work, school, and to run errands during the month of May. More than competition, our bike month program provides prizes for everyone and opportunities to celebrate and learn more about safe, effective bicycle transportation. In 2003, over 890 people in Thurston County participated in the contest, more than double the number just a few years ago. Each year almost half the participants are new to bicycle commuting. For more information on the contest, contact Ben Tabor, Intercity Transit, at (360) 357-1500 or visit their website: http://www.intercitytransit.com/page.cfm.
