Across the country, towns and cities of all sizes are using advances in communication and computer technology to improve transportation. These transportation technologies, called "intelligent transportation systems," or ITS, work to improve the safety, efficiency, dependability and cost effectiveness of our transportation system.
Local, state and federal governments strongly support transportation technologies. The United States Department of Transportation continues to dedicate a larger portion of transportation funds to projects that use traffic, transit, or commercial vehicle technologies. In order to receive funding for projects that involve ITS, jurisdictions must follow newly adopted national and regional standards that are described on this website. These standards require that proposed projects will work together with other ITS systems from surrounding jurisdictions.
- The Thurston Regional Planning Council (TRPC) acts as a forum for the development of ITS projects.
- This website provides one-stop shopping for a better understanding of regional ITS, its benefits, and why it matters.
- Here you will find easy access to information about standards and architecture, funding criteria, and other materials to assist jurisdictions in the development of ITS proposals and projects.
- Please enjoy your tour, review this website and tell us what you think. We hope you find it informative!
