"Bridging the Gap" Martin Way Crossing
This is the second of the three "Bridging the Gap" project segments. It has two components to it. The first is an at-grade crossing complete with a pedestrian refuge island and in-pavement lighting such as Olympia uses at major crossings throughout the city. This at-grade crossing was completed in 2007. It is useful not just for trail users but for transit riders and anyone else who needs to cross Martin Way safely at this mid-block location.
The second component of the Martin Way Crossing is a bridge. It will connect the I-5 Bridge directly to the Chehalis Western Trail where it terminates now at Martin Way. Construction of this element got underway in June 2009 and opens to the traveling public in April 2010.
Project Status
Martin Way Bridge is open! On March 31st the Martin Way Bridge opened for business, completing two of the three ‘Bridging the Gap’ projects.
