REGIONAL TRANSPORTATION
IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM (RTIP)
Annual Administrative Document
The Regional Transportation Improvement Program (RTIP) is prepared every year by Thurston Regional Planning Council (TRPC) in cooperation with local jurisdictions and the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT). The RTIP covers four years, and is derived from six-year Transportation Improvement Programs that each local jurisdiction adopts annually.
RTIP Main Functions
- Identify funding secured transportation projects that a) have federal funding, b) are WSDOT projects, or c) are regionally significant, regardless of funding source.
- Identify proposed transportation projects that are adopted in local Transportation Improvement Programs, but have not secured full funding.
- Demonstrate air quality conformity that none of the programmed projects will cause or contribute to any new violation of the federal air quality standards for particulate matter of 10 microns or less (PM10), will not increase the frequency or severity of any existing violation of the standards, nor delay timely attainment of the standards.
Current RTIP - 2008-2011
This RTIP document and the projects herein are in conformance with regulations and guidelines issued by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and the Washington State Department of Transportation.

Draft Proposed RTIP
Each August, TRPC releases a draft RTIP for public review and comment. TRPC and the Transportation Policy Board (TPB) policy makers review the RTIP during their September meetings. TRPC takes final action at their October meeting.

A supplemental document is compiled, "Six Year Transportation Improvement Programs for RTPO Member Jurisdictions." Contact TRPC to request a copy.
