Urban Growth Management

Thurston Regional Planning Council works on regional interjurisdictional projects and programs that explore and take action on both required and optional elements of the State Growth Management Act (GMA). These include the following:

  • GMA Monitoring Programs that meet the requirements of the "Buildable Lands" amendments to GMA for all county jurisdictions.  Buildable Lands focuses on meeting specific legislative requirements.  The program monitors actual development densities in the urban growth areas to determine if there is an adequate land supply for expected growth in the county.
  • Production of the GMA monitoring report:  "Regional Benchmarks for Thurston County, Tracking Growth Management Policy Implementation".
  • Production of a population and employment forecast that is integral to many growth management efforts including comprehensive plan updates and "Buildable Lands" amendment.
