Housing Panel


Panel Progress:

On November 28, 2011 the Housing panel presented research and information to the Sustainable Thurston Task Force intended to inform the process and to serve as a starting point for the public conversation set to start in 2012.  In addition, this panel work will provide a framework for panel members as they perform an advisory role in the development of the Regional Housing Plan and Fair Share Housing Allocation Plan.

Panel Role

Articulate issues related to housing for the Regional Plan for Sustainable Development Task Force

  • Identify challenges/barriers for development of full range of housing needs
  • Identify some opportunities to overcome challenges/barriers
  • Serve as advisors during the development of the Regional Housing Plan and Fair Share Housing Allocation Plan (between 2011 and 2013)

Creating Walkable Neighborhood Districts [pdf 1.5 MB]: An exploration of the demographic and physical characteristics needed to support local retail services, June 2010. This research examines:

  1. different types of neighborhood districts and their role in the hierarchy of retail centers, and
  2. the development patterns necessary to support a business district which will encourage pedestrian activity, social interaction, and transit ridership.
