What We are Working On
In addition to on-going regional planning, TRPC engages in a wide variety of projects. These projects generally relate to a specific topic or issue identified by Council and Policy Board Members. Often projects have a definite timeline and result in a final product or finding.
This section contains final reports, findings, and documents from recent projects. We also include status reports for current projects.

JBLM/ I-5 Congestion Relief Action Plan
I-5 Origin & Destination Study
During the week of October 25, 2010, the Thurston Regional Planning Council (TRPC) and the Washington State Department of Transportation conducted a regional origin and destination (O/D) study on Interstate 5 (I-5). This effort will help local and regional staff and policymakers understand how people use this facility and how to evaluate and prioritize ways to make interstate travel through the Thurston region safer and more reliable.
Smart Corridors
A clearinghouse of Smart Corridors resources for regional traffic operations group and policy maker subcommittee members.
Urban Corridors Task Force
Comprised of policy makers from TRPC and TPB, UCTF is evaluating land use along the region's key transit corridors and within activity centers.

“Walk and Roll” Program and Healthy Kids – Safe Streets Action Plan
“Walk and Roll” Program and Healthy Kids – Safe Streets Action Plan is a school demonstration project to build and sustain partnerships that will result in a new generation of walkers, bike and bus riders, as well as reduce trips to and around schools.
Regional Coordinated Public Transit and Human Services Transportation Plan
An update of the 2002 Area-Wide Job Access and Reverse Commute Transportation Plan for Thurston County.
Rural & Tribal Transportation (R/T)
R/T provides accessible transportation services for the Nisqually Indian Tribe, the Confederated Tribes of the Chehalis Reservation, the communities of Bucoda, Rainier, Rochester, Tenino, Yelm and other parts of rural Thurston County. R/T provides connections to Intercity Transit in Thurston County and Twin Transit in Lewis County.
Transportation Technologies (ITS)
ITS stands for Intelligent Transportation Systems, the advanced technology used to make transportation safer and more efficient.
West Olympia Access Study
The City of Olympia and the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) are partnering on a study to decide what changes are needed for west Olympia’s transportation system.
Rail Planning
The Thurston Regional Planning Council (TRPC) is updating its rail plans and policies, compiling the information into a Regional Rail Plan.
Traffic Modeling
A travel demand model is a set of mathematical procedures and equations that represent the variety of transportation choices people make, and how those choices result in trips on the transportation network.
