An effective greenhouse gas emissions reduction plan requires broad support and participation. To help inform this process The Thurston Climate Mitigation Plan utilizes the direction of a Steering Committee, consisting of locally elected officials, and an Advisory Workgroup, consisting of subject matter experts. Meetings are open to the public and are held regularly to review plan progress and discuss next steps. A summary of each meeting and distributed documents are cataloged on the plan’s Meeting Materials page. Another important element of unified community action is to elicit and incorporate continued Public Engagement. To ensure effective implementation of the climate plan’s Public Engagement Strategy, a Public Engagement Toolkit is used to help staff communicate key features and goals of a regional climate mitigation plan. These elements are designed to help residents understand climate change impacts and the value of responsive planning.
