Total Emissions

Total emissions show the sum of all sector emissions combined. The Thurston region’s greenhouse gas emissions inventory includes emissions generated within the Thurston region, in addition to emissions resulting from the production of energy used in the Thurston region and emissions resulting from the transportation and disposal of solid waste to a landfill outside Thurston County.

  1. Total Emissions
  2. Emissions Per Capita

Target

Reduce locally generated greenhouse gas emissions 45% below 2015 levels by 2030 and 85% below 2015 levels by 2050.

Outlook

  Not on track.

In 2021, countywide greenhouse gas emissions were 2.9 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MTCO2e). From 2015 to 2021, countywide greenhouse gas emissions decreased 4.1%. Per capita emissions were 9.8 MTCO2e in 2021 and have dropped 13.4% since 2015. The region has seen a moderate decrease in emissions since the baseline year, but is not on track to meet the 2030 or 2050 targets.
