Total Emissions

Total emissions show the sum of all sector emissions combined. The Thurston region’s greenhouse gas emissions inventory includes emissions generated within the Thurston region, in addition to emissions resulting from the production of energy used in the Thurston region and emissions resulting from the transportation and disposal of solid waste to a landfill outside Thurston County.

  1. Total Emissions
  2. Emissions Per Capita

Reduce locally generated greenhouse gas emissions 45% below 2015 levels by 2030 and 85% below 2015 levels by 2050.

  Not on track.

In 2019, countywide greenhouse gas emissions were 3.3 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MTCO2e). From 2018 to 2019, countywide greenhouse gas emissions increased 9%. Since 2015, total emissions have risen 15%. Per capita emissions were 11.4 MTCO2e in 2019 and have increased 7% since 2015. The region is not on track to meet the 2030 or 2050 targets.

Note: The latest available year of emissions data is 2019, which predates adoption of the Thurston Climate Mitigation Plan (2020).
