Data TableElectricity and Natural Gas Energy Consumption
ExplanationBetween 2017 and 2018, overall energy consumption by Puget Sound Energy (PSE) customers in Thurston County decreased by 1.6%.  Electricity consumption increased by 1.0% while natural gas consumption decreased by 5.2%.

Energy Units

Puget Sound Energy (PSE) typically reports electricity use in kilowatt-hours while natural gas use is reported in therms. These units both convert into megajoules (MJ), which are used in the chart above to compare energy sources used by PSE's customers. The following conversion rates apply:

  • 1 therm = 105.48 MJ
  • 1 kilowatt-hour = 3.6 MJ

Sustainable Thurston Report Card

The Sustainable Thurston Report Card tracks how well the Thurston region is doing at becoming carbon neutral.  The goal includes three targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions:

  • 25% reduction of 1990 levels by 2020
  • 45% reduction of 1990 levels by 2035
  • 80% reduction of 1990 levels by 2050
