Between 2020 and 2021, electricity consumption by Puget Sound Energy (PSE) customers increased by 4.2% while natural gas consumption increased by 1.7%. The largest increase was in commercial electricity customers (5.4%) while the smallest was industrial natural gas customers (1.5%).
The combined generating capacity of renewable energy systems in Thurston County increased by 40% from 2021 to 2022, reflecting a strong shift towards solar and other renewable energy sources.
Sustainable Thurston Report Card
The Sustainable Thurston Report Card tracks how well the Thurston region is doing at becoming carbon neutral. The goal includes three targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions:
- Achieve 45% reduction of 2015 levels by 2030
- Achieve 85% reduction of 2015 levels by 2050
