Thank you for your interest in the Thurston Climate Mitigation Plan and for signing up for climate mitigation plan updates. We are excited to inform you about progress on Thurston County, Lacey, Olympia, and Tumwater’s strategy to reduce local contributions to climate change.

All four jurisdictions have adopted Resolutions accepting the Thurston Climate Mitigation Plan, after the Steering Committee approved a final draft on December 10, 2020. A big “Thank You” to the many people in the community who provided public comment supporting the Thurston Climate Mitigation Plan at these public meetings, and over the course of the plan’s development.

Now the four jurisdictions are working toward an agreement for continuing coordination on climate action. This “Phase 3 Interlocal Agreement” outlines next steps for enacting “regionally coordinated” pieces of the Thurston Climate Mitigation Plan: Olympia and Thurston County have approved this Phase 3 Agreement, while Tumwater and Lacey will consider approving them at meetings this week. In addition, individual jurisdictions have begun looking at ways to address actions identified in the plan through their own policies and programs.

While the planning process for the Thurston Climate Mitigation Plan is now complete, TRPC will continue to use this newsletter to provide occasional updates on the region’s climate change work. As always, we welcome your feedback! If you have questions or comments, please reach out to Allison Osterberg or Les Tobias at climate@trpc.org
