Thank you for your interest in the Thurston Climate Mitigation Plan and for signing up for climate mitigation plan updates. We are excited to inform you about progress on Thurston County, Lacey, Olympia, and Tumwater’s strategy to reduce local contributions to climate change.

On Monday, April 25, 2022, from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm Thurston Regional Planning Council will host a Climate Action Steering Committee meeting. Click here to access the meeting webinar registration link, agenda, and materials. 

The committee will discuss Steering Committee charter updates and approve logistics for the Advisory Workgroup that will be formed later this year to provide community input on regional climate mitigation priorities. There will also be a wrap up on the recently completed state legislative session.

There will be an opportunity for public comment at the start of the meeting – if you wish to provide oral comment during the meeting, please check the box to indicate this when registering. Written comments may be emailed to climate@trpc.org, and must be received by noon on April 22, 2022, to be provided to the Committee prior to the meeting.  

Here are some other news and opportunities for area residents interested in regional climate action during this year’s Earth Month.

• Congratulations to the 2022 Thurston Green Business Award Winners, including TCMP partner City of Tumwater, which was recognized for its many sustainability efforts.
• The City of Olympia will be hosting a stewardship event at Priest Point Park to celebrate Earth Day on Saturday, April 23^rd. Register for the free event and all youth under age 18 must have a waiver completed and signed by a parent/guardian. 
• The City of Tumwater will be hosting an Earth Day Volunteer Work Party and Arbor Day Celebration at Tumwater Historical Park on Saturday, April 23^rd. The Arbor Day Celebration will include tree related give-away items with planting and care instructions. 
• The Olympia High School Climate Action Club and the Thurston Climate Action Team (TCAT) are hosting an electric car show as a part of Drive Electric Earth Day, April 30, at Olympia High School.
• Olympia Community Solar has opened applications for the next round of its Solarize group purchasing solar installation campaign, in line with Action B5.10 of the TCMP.
• Intercity Transit will be hosting the annual Bicycle Community Challenge (BCC) during the Month of May. All rides count and there are several prizes to win! Hopping on your bike supports the TCMP strategy to increase use of active forms of travel (T5).
