Thank you for your interest in the Thurston Climate Mitigation Plan and for signing up for climate mitigation plan updates. We are excited to inform you about progress on Thurston County, Lacey, Olympia, and Tumwater’s strategy to reduce local contributions to climate change.

On Monday, May 23, 2022, from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm Thurston Regional Planning Council will host a Climate Action Steering Committee meeting. Click here to access the meeting webinar registration link, agenda, and materials. 

The committee will consider changes to their charter and the 2022 Work Program budget, and review updates to the TCMP website, including the new monitoring dashboard. The committee will hear a presentation on Washington State’s legacy forests from the Center for Responsible Forestry.

There will be an opportunity for public comment at the start of the meeting – if you wish to provide oral comment during the meeting, please check the box to indicate this when registering. Written comments may be emailed to climate@trpc.org, and must be received by noon on May 20, 2022, to be provided to the Committee prior to the meeting.  

Here are some other news and opportunities for area residents interested in regional climate action.

• Through May 31, explore an online open house and provide feedback on land use and transportation options for the future of Martin Way. The Martin Way Corridor Study includes policies to increase urban density and efficient transportation networks in line with climate targets and actions in the TCMP (T1.1 and T1.11).
• Olympia Community Solar has opened applications for the next round of its Solarize group purchasing solar installation campaign, in line with Action B5.10 of the TCMP.
• Intercity Transit is hosting the annual Bicycle Community Challenge (BCC) during the Month of May. All rides count and there are several prizes to win! Hopping on your bike supports the TCMP strategy to increase use of active forms of travel (T5).
