For 2024, the Washington State Office of Financial Management estimated Thurston County’s median household income to be $91,522. This is the sixth-highest median household income among all counties in Washington, behind Clark, King, Kitsap, Pierce, and Snohomish counties.

When adjusted for inflation, Thurston County’s median household income has been decreasing since 2020. The 2023 median income is 2.5% lower than the 2020 estimate of $93,913.

According to the 2020-2024 American Community Survey, Rainier has the highest median household income in Thurston County, followed by Tumwater. The Confederated Tribes of the Chehalis Reservation has the lowest median household income.

Median Household Income

Median household income is the middle point where half of the households earn more and half earn less. This measure only considers money income and does not include additional benefits like employer contributions to pension plans and medical benefits.
