Explanation
Washington's 2024 Strategic Highway Safety Plan — known as Target Zero — has a goal of zero deaths and serious injuries from traffic-related accidents by 2030 because there is no level of injury or fatality that is acceptable.
Fatalities and serious injuries for motorists and active transportation users have been increasing. In 2024 there were 26 fatalities and 120 suspected serious injuries — the highest number since at least 2005 —.
