ExplanationWashington's 2013 Strategic Highway Safety Plan — known as Target Zero — has a goal of zero deaths and serious injuries from traffic-related accidents by 2030 because there is no level of injury or fatality that is acceptable.

In 2018, the number of fatalities on Thurston County roads peaked at 26 for the fourth time since 2005. Also in 2018, there were 73 serious injuries and 21 non-motorist fatalities and serious injuries, representing an increase over 2017 numbers.
