[ARCHIVED] July 2020 Project Update: Thurston Climate Mitigation Plan

Thank you for your interest in the Thurston Climate Mitigation Plan.

Thank you for your interest in the Thurston Climate Mitigation Plan and for signing up for climate plan updates. We are excited to inform you about progress on developing a strategy for Thurston County, Lacey, Olympia, and Tumwater to reduce local contributions to climate change.

This update is going out to everyone who signed up for project notifications through our website, took the community survey, or visited us at an information booth last summer, as well as those who participated in a focus group or other climate meetings. Over the past year, the project team used the wide range of public input we received to develop an initial list of potential communitywide actions. We assessed that long list to identify a shorter list of actions that were most likely to help achieve our greenhouse gas emission reduction targets and other community goals. Now, we are working on laying out the steps each jurisdiction will need to take to meet those targets, as well as a process to monitor progress on those actions. We anticipate having a full draft of the Thurston Climate Mitigation Plan available for public review in late summer, with more opportunities for public feedback in the fall.

In the meantime, we have reorganized the Thurston Climate Mitigation Plan website to provide better navigation and make searching for climate plan materials and resources easier. The Project Documents page breaks the climate plan into its working sections. Here, you can learn more about the goals and emission targets for the climate plan, explore the actions list and analysis, and other valuable resources. On the Meeting Materials, you’ll find links to all the materials provided at past Steering Committee and Climate Advisory Workgroup meetings. We hope you will take some time to visit these new pages and learn more about the Thurston Climate Mitigation Plan’s goals and development.

We’ll be using this method to send out updates about upcoming climate plan events or comment periods. As always, we welcome your feedback! If you have questions or comments, please reach out to Allison Osterberg or Les Tobias at
